Turkish pilot leader (pilot 8)

Izmir is the third largest city and the second most important port city in Turkey. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) is responsible for the entire provincial territory, spanning a total area of 12.000 km2, including 30 districts. It is a member of many international organisations, including the Covenant of Mayors, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), and many more. With its aim of  improving the urban and living standards in the city, IBB directs its investments and projects in line with this objective. It undertakes many urban and social projects with the goal of a liveable environment and preserving historical and cultural assets.

Role in the project

IBB is for Pilot 8, Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum (APIKAM) building
and the directorate. APIKAM has significant historical value, being the first fire station built by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality after the Great Fire of İzmir in 1922. Constructed in 1930, APIKAM is a multifunctional building operated by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality. INHERIT will improve its accessibility for citizens, apply energy and emission reduction strategies, improve indoor building conditions, and use renewable energy technologies.

INHERIT’s consortium gathers 18 partners from 13 European countries, involved in the project at various levels, covering the social, technological, and scientific layer, as well as the communication, dissemination and exploitation activities.
