Ahmet Piriştina İzmir City Archive and Museum (APİKAM)
İzmir, Türkiye
History and features
APİKAM has significant historical value, being the first fire station built by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality after the Great Fire of İzmir in 1922. The building consists of three floors and hosts municipality offices, a museum exhibition hall, two seminar halls for 140+ people, city archive research hall, İzmir National Library Foundations, local newspaper archive and a book-café in the annex. With all these functions the building has the capacity to attract more than 50,000 visitors yearly.
Solutions
Given the public function of the building, its accessibility and usability for citizens and visitors will be improved. INHERIT will also apply the decision support tool to assess cost-optimal energy and emission reduction strategies, improve indoor building conditions, and use renewable energy technologies on the building by preserving its historical value.
