INHERIT starts working on the energy performance assessment of the AVE SOL concert hall, located in the heart of Riga's Old Town

INHERIT has started enhancing the energy performance of the historic AVE SOL concert hall.

Built between 1780 and 1785 in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, it was originally the St. Peter and Pavel Church. This landmark underwent significant restoration and reconstruction from 1980 to 1987. However, its function changed in 1940, after Latvia’s occupation by the Red Army. In 1977, the building was transferred to the Riga Culture Administration, transforming it into a concert hall.

INHERIT has started testing advanced data-driven energy management techniques within the AVE SOL concert hall to optimise its energy efficiency. The project will not only explore methods to improve the building’s energy performance but also assess the potential for applying these techniques to other historical structures. Additionally, INHERIT aims to implement various solutions to enhance thermal comfort and improve accessibility for all visitors.

The project team, guided by Riga Planning Region, has many plans for this historic building. In early 2024, the team installed indoor air quality monitoring sensors within the concert hall. These, continuously track key environmental parameters, including CO2 levels, humidity, and temperature. These measurements will play a crucial role in informing the project’s energy management strategies and ensuring a comfortable environment for concertgoers and staff alike.
